GOOD LUCK - CONTEST ENDS FEB 27th
THE HEARTFELT ROCKING BABY SLING INTERVIEW
Q. Thanks so much for participating in our 100th post giveaway! We had you pick the winner, can you tell us who you picked?

A. Well, we ended up picking two. We are donating a pouch to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the winning sling goes to a single mom who is working hard to care for her baby on her own.
Both stories touched us in a personal way. Lisa's son was born early and spent 7 days in a NICU, he was fine, full weight, but a little jaundiced. But there were so many other babies there that had been born too early and were teeny-tiny, or had health issues, some requiring surgery. So many of these babies were there alone because they had been born into homes with multiple siblings, so parents could only be there for a few hours a day at best -- many of these babies would really have benefited from being worn by the caregivers there, by being held close to a warm, beating heart, instead of spending most of their time in an incubator.
When Lisa took her baby home her husband had to go back to work and she was home alone with a baby that was only happy being held. She was so grateful to have a sling. He was worn constantly and she was still able to function while fully caring for her new baby. It felt like such a blessing. That was the impetus for starting Rockin' Baby -- the sling she wore was not pretty, or cool or stylish at all -- but she loved how it worked. Natasha had a sling that was even less attractive than Lisa's, but she loved using hers as well.

When we read the comment that was written by our sling winner we were both moved for a couple of reasons. It is hard enough being a first time mom with a new baby, but to do it on your own can really be challenging. She seemed like she would really benefit from having a sling, to be able to get things done, especially because she doesn't even have a stroller.

Q. Can you tell us about yourself and your company and what inspires you?

A..We are a small two-mom business started out of a need we felt, in 2002, when we first had our children. Since then so many sling, pouch and baby wrap companies have sprouted up.
When we started we really wanted to share babywearing with parents that might not have considered it, if the sling wasn't pretty or fashionable -- so many people seemed to think back then that it was something that only hippie moms did.
It was really exciting to raise awareness about babywearing and teach people how easy it is to nurse on the go. We felt like we helped a lot of moms realize that they could still do everything they needed to do while taking care of baby, even nursing out and about. We also have enjoyed learning how to run a business ourselves, with all the growing pains that entailed, both finding and designing fabrics, and figuring out how to keep our business here in Los Angeles.
We realized early on that it was very important to us to keep our business local. We design, purchase, wash, cut, dye, print and sew here in L.A. We take pride in supporting local business and in turn local moms and dads. We've also been hard at work figuring out how to run our business as green as possible, adding organics to our line, using recycled and recyclable packaging, and recycling at our office. We are both continually inspired by our amazing children.

Q. Where can someone purchase a Rockin' Baby Sling?

A. Our slings and pouches are available at our website
rockinbabysling.com and at boutiques worldwide.

Q. What is your ultimate wishes and goals for Rockin' Baby Slings?

A. We are so grateful for what we have been able to do these past years and will always work to promote babywearing. We also hope to continue to grow both as individuals and as a company.

Q. Thanks again and is there anything else you'd like our readers to know?
A. We wished we were a big enough company to give a sling or pouch to everyone that made a comment! Thank you to all your readers!

  1. My sister is in serious need of an awesome sling like this. She has a baby that screams whenever he's put down.

  2. My favorite slings are the Sweet Dreams and Love Is All Around. I would like to win because I would never be able to afford one. After losing our 1st daughter we decided that we wouldnt buy anything unless we were sure that we would be having another child. We recently became pregnant and are very excited. We live in a small town where there are no maternity stores around and so we have to purchase everything online. My BF is supporting me right now and I would like to be able to get somethings for the baby that he wont have to pay for since we just bought a house.

I like the "all you need is love" sling best. I would love to have one of the slings since this will be my first (much anticipated after nearly two years of trying and treatments with severe endo) and I want to have the baby close to my heart, rather than in a stroller, whenever possible. Jill

  4. I love the pouch! It'd be a blessing to our busy NICU. We often have sick babies that just want to be held all the time or others that are unconsolable maybe because they are withdrawing from maternal substance abuse and having one of these pouches would be a perfect way to sooothe them while our hands are free to finish charting or caring for other babies. I work night shift (No parents around) so especially love the fact they are snuggled in there away from lights.

  5. I work in a non-for profit busy NICU. This would be perfect to help soothe those that are always screaming to be held. Night shift is especially tough without parents around and many children to take care of. We are the only hospital in a 250 mile radius. My favorite is the pouch as it provides a snuggling environment and keeps the light away from their little faces to sleep. Love the fact that it can be used by both male and females. Much better that the backpack pouches the babies usually dislike.

  13. my name is Anel and We have a 18 month old who like any toddler is very energetic. We are also currently expecting our 2nd baby and would absolutely love the crimson and clover pouch. I just know that once the baby comes it will help so much so that I can still have free hands to give my big boy all the attention he needs.

  14. I love both the pouches and the slings. My faves are little child running wild sling and a forest sling. I would love to win because being a college student doesn't leave much money for anything else. We are having our first baby sooner than we thought so all our money is going towards taking more classes to graduate early. This would be great for me because instead of taking the stroller to the college library I could just take the baby inside the sling. =]

  15. I'd love to have an amazing pouch (in For those about to Rock)like this, I'm a first time mommy to be, due in June and would love to use it for all kinds of hands free time- dishes, vacuuming, or just trips out and about to walk the pooch, and just get stuff done in general!

  16. They are all so cute, but if I have to choose just one it would be the Midnight Hour Sling I think. It would not be for me, as I have cats and I don't think they'd like being wrapped to my body! (Read scratches and hisses galore!) : ) But I would give it to my friend Julie who had a baby boy in October, and he is a very big boy!!! (She says he is 95th percentile, whatever that means.) We were at the mall having a ladies shopping/lunch date last week and he barely fit into the smallish sling that she currently owns. And little Charlie does not like to be in his stroller for any length of time (like more than 1.5 minutes). She would love a new larger sling like these great ones from Rockin' Baby Slings! Thank you!

I'm a soon-to-be-third time Momma who doesn't own a properly made sling/pouch. I have a few jimmy-rig situations that I've sewn myself. But nothing this cute. And definitely not this well made!

  32. My Son was born two weeks early but still full term but after we took him home there were complications with his jaundice and weight and the only thing I can do to keep him calm is to hold him. I havent been able to get any thing done around the house because of this and I've been running to the hospital every other day to get blood drawn and check his weight. He is slowly getting better. I also am not able to afford a sling I am on a limited income because I am unable to work. The babys father left me when I was 2months pregnant and I havent heard from him since. I'm lucky to have my parents but I feel its my child I shouldn't have to rely on them to raise my child. I would be so greatful to receive a sling. It would help out so much. I dont even have a stroller so it would help out going to the grocery store.
