My daughter Sofia got some of the cutest play sets from Land of Nod! The adorable pink baby crib and matching high chair. I just love them! I know she feels the same way because she covered her mouth in disbelief when she opened it. A crib for my baby, just like mine! Yes! We had a great snow storm this morning and afternoon! I figured I'd try to get some pictures of Sofie but she didn't much care for the snow. As we were out there it turned into sleet and slush. I am happy I atleast got this picture of her coming inside.

I had the opportunity to go to this amazing charity luncheon with some new friends this afternoon in Boston. It's just a reminder to always get involved and give back when you can.

Here's the link to Rosie's Place a very special place for homeless women. They are celebrating their 35th year! What's also impressive is they do not except any funding from city, state or federal funding! They have been supported solely by the generous support of individuals, foundations and corporations. In fact 89 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to services for women and their children. Please visit their site to learn more about the wonderful things they do in the Boston community. The mission of Rosie's Place is to help women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives. BAKING...OH WHAT FUN

Tonight my son (I hope he's going to help) and I are baking lots of mini banana bread loaves! I got all of the bananas to make some for his school bake sale but they didn't ripen in time. Figures. And the last time we made this it came out so good our dog Charlie helped herself to about 6 of the little loaves while I was doing the school run. This time I will protect them!

So unlike My Punch Bowl (read the post below) I am counting down the weeks left in summer. I know...not what you wanted to hear? I am craving the schedule that fall brings and let me tell you the kids need it too! I always think of September as a do over for new beginnings and a fresh start to the school year! Well don't be discouraged when you see the coats and winter preview lining up in stores. They aren't trying to diminish your summer! It's when the first and most cases best Coat selections arrive in stores. Did y'all forget I am a fashion designer? Ahhh you'll see that side of me soon...

Ever wonder why when it's so cold out you can't find a jacket you like? You think " It is winter! Where are all the coats and why am I looking at bathing suits!!!" Furthermore why is it that there is never a cute coat on the sale rack or in your size? If you are a small like me the best stuff goes first! So honey that's now.... I'd be getting on my coat selections now through no later than October before they are gone and the lighter coats get brought in... Get shopping, your coat awaits ;)

This is just a little cheer to kick off your weekend! Have you ever seen a double rainbow? This is the first one I've ever seen but look close so you don't miss out! It was a beautiful night last week with very light rain and an unbelievable skyline. Take some time to stop and appreciate it and I'll post that review Sun/Mon. Want a hint? Hope your summer is going well and you are relaxing! We've been taking it easy here and checking in with you during our summer vacations. Busy days playing with the kids and I know one of our dogs is pooped after a long day..... This is Charlie and she is our resident alarm. She looks cute now but I felt really bad for the fed ex man the other day. I've never seen a man jump into their truck that fast. Then again she is scary at full speed with her teeth showing. But she is Sofia's favorite dog and luckily the only child Charlie hasn't tasted yet ;)

Pacifier Bowl

Can you ever find your baby's pacifiers? I know I have about a million but where are they all? Under the crib? Under the couch? Inside the cabinets and or Daddy's shoes? Maybe that's just my darling daughter...

When I was trying to design her nursery (which I am still doing) the first thing I got and put on her night table was a pacifier bowl. An adorable little bowl just for her passy's so I would know where they were! When she got a little older she would reach up into the bowl and get one. It was perfect since she knew where she could find one too!

Then she got a little older and threw it down the stairs and smashed it into itty bitty pieces.

Oh yeah she's cute LOL.

So when I saw this adorable hand painted wooden bowl I thought PERFECT she can't break it and maybe we'll know where the passy's are again!

Well this has been the cloudiest June in record since the 1800's....

I heard that on the news last week. But maybe it's starting to turn around!

We haven't been up to too much round here...just spending time with the kids and enjoying some much needed R&R! Preschool has finally been secured and I can finally get through the summer without that on my mind...what a relief!

TAKING A BREAK

We have been taking somewhat of a break. The computer I was using to blog on had some issues so I had to take the time to clear it up properly and I also took a little me time too (sorry).

Just coming into spring I was so depressed and I finally feel like I am coming out of my fog. YAY. For all of you that continue to stay tuned I thank you so much!

We will be blogging over the summer mostly about us, the family, our adventures and what inspires us. And of coarse what we'll be shopping for!!! The newsletters will be held off for a bit while we revamp them. As fall comes back around we'll buckle in with the school schedule and resume the giveaways.

Happy Easter! How did you spend yours? I stayed home and cleaned. What fun LOL. ALERT : NEW AIRLINE RULES ABOUT CAR SEATS ALL PARENTS MUST READ

MOM RANT - Did anyone know that the airlines wants a confirmation that your carseat is airplane safe? Is this a new rule that was implemented as of March? Why are the airlines NOT telling us until we are already on the plane?! And what are they looking for exactly? A sticker or if you still have the booklet that comes with your car seat (which luckily I left mine hanging from it). While trying to board a flight home from Disney last week they wouldn't let us onto the plane without seeing the printed words "airplane safe". My husband is holding the baby, car seats and bags and the crew refuse to let us sit (we're in the first row) and get out of other people's way to board and get settled with their kids. We are flying from Orlando, and there were tons of kids on the plane!
The man flight attendant tried to rip the seat from my husband's hand looking for this sticker! We explain it's in the book and we know where it is can we just move out of the way to let people by and we'll show it to him. "No I cannot let you onto the plane until I see it." Lets just say things got a little ugly after that....and a supervisor came to issue a warning.
So parents make sure you either visit the website of the carseat manufactor to get a sticker, make your own or carry your original book for proof your car seats are airplane safe!!! They should tell you this BEFORE you even board the plane. We were flying Air Tran and I will be writing a letter. Traveling with 2 kids is stressful enough....

MOM RANT - The other day I finally joined the world of "grown ups"and went to see a primary care doctor. When I arrive they decided to switch my new doctor (whom I've never met) to a different doctor. I haven't even finished filling out the paperwork when a nurse whisks me into a room. So I'm thinking this will be a snap to get in and out of here! WRONG. I sit and wait for the "new" doctor for an HOUR. I am so stealing the magazine I just read from cover to cover! I just know the minute I do anything (like pass gas) get on the phone or leave to go to the bathroom she'll come into the room. It's always the way. So that gives me an idea...

I'm sitting here in a johnny (freezing) and writing this blog post. I wish I had my laptop ;) If I run out of paper I'm going to use some blank lab reports. There is plenty of paper in here! I should've been using all this time wisely and creatively instead of fuming! Hmmm there is hovering outside my door. Figures it's her....now that I am doing something else.

Oh yea it feels good to get rid of all the CLUTTER around here. I've been chipping away at it (slowly) but everyday I find something to get rid of, donate or just finally put away. It does feel good. My good deed of the day was to drop a bag of clothing in the donation box in town.

My son says "They take clothes and shoes....did we give them any shoes?" We didn't have any shoes to give but lots of great clothes that someone else could wear or even gift...

Spring is coming...I just know it! I love the spring. For me it is a time of renewal and rebirth. I always feel most creative in the spring and it takes me through the summer and fall. Then I hibernate and become depressed in the winter. But now I have something to look forward to!

MOM RANT - Would you ever try to un-invite a child to a birthday party? No right? Who would do that! Well....my son was invited to a birthday party from a school friend and when I RSVP'd the mom was all like "How old is he again?" Apparently being three weeks shy of his 4th birthday just doesn't cut it.

What?! I was like "how are they going to know" Well that permission form.....oh that I haven't even filled it out yet. Instead of saying to me they may give you a problem about it just change his birthday from March to April, we'd really like him to come. Ok sure thing, fun for all!

Nope. It was so dramatic and awkward pauses on the phone and just relentless apologies. She was totally trying to un-invite him!!! What's the big deal...it's 3 weeks.

What'd I do? I stuck up for my small fry and said well you did invite him do you want him to come or what? With all the backtracking and more apologies I was all about just getting her off the line. I said we'd be there anyway and she seemed surprised. How rude. I wasn't going to let her off that easy. But in the end I didn't go....and she said "oh we missed you." Right.

What would you do if that happened to you? Anyone have some stories like this? Do tell.

THE HEARTFELT ROCKING BABY SLING INTERVIEW

Q. Thanks so much for participating in our 100th post giveaway! We had you pick the winner, can you tell us who you picked?

A. Well, we ended up picking two. We are donating a pouch to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the winning sling goes to a single mom who is working hard to care for her baby on her own.

Both stories touched us in a personal way. Lisa's son was born early and spent 7 days in a NICU, he was fine, full weight, but a little jaundiced. But there were so many other babies there that had been born too early and were teeny-tiny, or had health issues, some requiring surgery. So many of these babies were there alone because they had been born into homes with multiple siblings, so parents could only be there for a few hours a day at best -- many of these babies would really have benefited from being worn by the caregivers there, by being held close to a warm, beating heart, instead of spending most of their time in an incubator.

When Lisa took her baby home her husband had to go back to work and she was home alone with a baby that was only happy being held. She was so grateful to have a sling. He was worn constantly and she was still able to function while fully caring for her new baby. It felt like such a blessing. That was the impetus for starting Rockin' Baby -- the sling she wore was not pretty, or cool or stylish at all -- but she loved how it worked. Natasha had a sling that was even less attractive than Lisa's, but she loved using hers as well.

When we read the comment that was written by our sling winner we were both moved for a couple of reasons. It is hard enough being a first time mom with a new baby, but to do it on your own can really be challenging. She seemed like she would really benefit from having a sling, to be able to get things done, especially because she doesn't even have a stroller.

Q. Can you tell us about yourself and your company and what inspires you?

A..We are a small two-mom business started out of a need we felt, in 2002, when we first had our children. Since then so many sling, pouch and baby wrap companies have sprouted up.
When we started we really wanted to share babywearing with parents that might not have considered it, if the sling wasn't pretty or fashionable -- so many people seemed to think back then that it was something that only hippie moms did.

It was really exciting to raise awareness about babywearing and teach people how easy it is to nurse on the go. We felt like we helped a lot of moms realize that they could still do everything they needed to do while taking care of baby, even nursing out and about. We also have enjoyed learning how to run a business ourselves, with all the growing pains that entailed, both finding and designing fabrics, and figuring out how to keep our business here in Los Angeles.

We realized early on that it was very important to us to keep our business local. We design, purchase, wash, cut, dye, print and sew here in L.A. We take pride in supporting local business and in turn local moms and dads. We've also been hard at work figuring out how to run our business as green as possible, adding organics to our line, using recycled and recyclable packaging, and recycling at our office. We are both continually inspired by our amazing children.

I read this little tip somewhere out in the web and it really struck me as a good idea: get an errand basket. Everyday before you leave the house you put your "to do" errands inside the basket and into the front seat of your car and that way it's so easy to accomplish your errands. Even after knowing this I resisted thinking of yet another thing I would have to carry with me (plus the kids) but about a week later I FINALLY did it and it has changed the way I run errands! Aha Moments...

So I was having one of those days where I didn't get organized early enough in the morning and I had time to do stuff (since my sitter was with the kids) and I didn't know what to do. Going home to get stuff together wasn't really an appealing option so I got my nails done instead. That's right I took some selfish me time vs errands. You know what it took 20 minutes and cost 12.00 so I'll skip the trip to Starbucks 2x a week and treat myself. It felt so good to have some tiny part of me polished...it was my aha moment on the day. Calliou...I do not know of a mom who liked this poor little cartoon. Do you? is he your guilty pleasure when you need some mommy time? I will confess I did put it on so Mason would let me shower. And you know what...it was a wonderful shower indeed ;)
